I use to run the streets of Chicago getting into a lot of trouble. From 17 years old to about 20 I was in and out of Jail and almost lost my life on 3 separate occasions. Then I ended up beating two felony cases and after the second one. I decided to go into the navy, because I ain’t want to die and do none with my life for my son. He’s my biggest motivation to keep striving. This song “Mistunderstood” talks a little bit about that. How growing up I was introduced to violence, guns, & drugs at such an early age. Dealing with mom not being home a lot. I talk about how I use to sell drugs and how it made me feel on top. Then talking about God in certain parts to forgive me for the stuff I have done, because I’ve been getting real close to God lately because I want to become a better person each and everyday that passes by and I can’t do that without God.
My name is Jacob Martin and I am a 24 year old from Dallas, Texas. I currently reside in Lubbock, Texas and am finishing up my biochemistry degree (I graduate August 7th yessirrrr) at Texas Tech University. I acquired my love for music and it’s composition at a young age through playing the violin and cello in orchestras for about 12 years. When I got to college I decided I wanted to create my own musical space and began to teach myself how to interact with a DAW (Logic Pro x). After a year or two of teaching myself on the side of my university studies, I began to craft my own sounds. As soon as I began creating music I realized that there are very few things that stimulate my mind the way being creative does. “ I Promise” was the first song I released in 2019, and it caught a local buzz at school in Lubbock and at home in Dallas. It saw radio time and got a co-sign from Roy Jones Jr. The next song I released at the beginning of this year is called “Right Now.”
When I finish school in a couple of weeks I plan to release music at a higher volume and more consistent pace. My top 3 major influences are probably Drake, Travis, and Young Thug. But I don’t try to mirror these rappers as much as I study their tendencies and how they create in their space. I’ve had a couple of opportunities to perform but have not been able to because of COVID and my music catalogue not meeting the volume threshold the venues have asked of me. When I move back to Dallas in a couple of weeks, I’m very excited to continue with my musical journey at full speed.
Nostalgicate, London based Hip Hop RnB beatmaker with melodic hypnotic grooves.. right now I’m in the stage of honing my sound as well as reaching out to fellow artists & creatives.
“Nostalgicate” is a mix of words, nostalgic & illustrate which is the vibe I try to paint through my music. I base a lot of my influences off old school 90’s/00’s beats which inspiration from 9th wonder Kanye & Dr Dre just to name the familiar. I’ve been producing for the past 3 years now steady shifting my career from semi pro basketball player to barber & music producer in a 5 year span. Barbering is the hustle music is the passion but in the past year I’ve decided to pursue my music full time which is both scary & exciting but soon will be rewarding.
