I'm from a small town in central California called Tuolumne (we used to be mecca of the gold rush), I grew up just my mom and i (to this day), I have a close knit family and they are super supportive of what i do. I used to be really into sports as an adolescent, I played sports all throughout high school. I wanted to play basketball and have a career in that industry but I ended up breaking my ankle my senior year just before the season started. Since then music fell in my lap and I've been in love and infatuated with it. I've been writing since i was a little boy around 11 and started recording when i was about 19-20 (I'm 26 now). It took a long time to get where i am today and it wasn't easy but i wouldn't trade it for anything! Hip-Hop has taught me more than i could've ever discovered myself, its a part of my every day life. I love old school hip-hop and pride myself in emulating that type of sound. I'm working on projects with newer style beats, singers (male and female), different beat makers from all over the world, and i am in the process of recording my second album. I love to make funky, upbeat songs like the one i have called In My Feelingz. Major influences consist of Nas, J. Cole, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Bob Marley, Common, Black Star, A Tribe Called Quest, and The Roots to name a few.. I have performed numerous times we've hosted countless shows in my home town of Sonora and have performed a ton out of town as well, none out of state though. My buddy and i go by The Specialists and we are working on a ton of songs with Grizzly Beatz, We've purchased 20 so far with your insane buy 1 get 9 free deal! (Killer by the way, THANK YOU!) Currently working with a Jazz-Funk band as well and we are working on some original music. Thank you guys for taking your time to promote dope independent artists and read these bios, this is a great opportunity! - Toltec
Below is an article written about Toltec by Emily Kingston of The BOP - 90’s born, and bringing it back. Toltec, a.k.a. Austin Frederick, is a Tuolumne raised Hip-Hop artist with fierce drive marked by 7 years of hard work towards his growing music career. Beginning as a group member in Toltec & This-Sky, Toltec went solo in 2017 and has been moving forward ever since. Throughout 2018 and 2019 his work has notably risen throughout the community as new song debuts have pulled in a growing fan base. October 18th 2019 marks the highly anticipated release of Toltec’s first 7-track album, titled “For the Love of Hip-Hop, Vol. 1.” The official album release party will be held at the Game Room in Sonora on October 19th. Toltec’s music reflects the cultural imprint of the Golden Age of 90’s Hip-Hop – the raw and lyrical music he grew up on. “I came up from Big Daddy Kane, Rakim and KRS One,” says Toltec, “but I want to make music that’s enjoyable for all walks of life.” In shaping his brand with audience in mind, his tracks reflect those values and make it easy for such a diverse fan base to relate to them, “whether you’re 8 or 80.” While many artists take small pieces of 90’s Hip-Hop for current tracks in today’s music industry, it is clear that Toltec has successfully mirrored the genre in a way that plays perfectly into the 90’s nostalgia that so many crave, while still holding onto the relatability and impact of modern American music culture. Toltec describes his passion for Hip-Hop music as having stemmed from a lifelong love for the culture and genre. This love for music was not something he could let pass him by, as he has dedicated himself to making a solid career out of it. Time in his home studio has paid off, casting significant effect into the elements of sound that make his songs so exclusively unique and undeniably awesome. Toltec’s music is available on numerous platforms, including here on SoundCloud and Youtube.
