donSMITH Washington Heights & Harlem-bred emcee, illustrating the harsh realities of being from low-income immigrant families; and the many triumphs that come with them. Initially a multi-instrumentalist, donSMITH began to focus on the lyrical aspect of music throughout college, storytelling & writing poetry. In last two years, he has performed on stages all over New York City. donSMITH strives to create art that reflects the beauty birthed by struggle in life, faith in God, and cultural evaporation as gentrification takes its toll. Vulnerability and soulful storytelling is the core of donSMITH’s message, aiming to breed hope and fellowship amongst all listeners. in 2019, after headlining his first mini-tour, donSMITH saw his most successful year in streaming on Spotify, releasing two songs, amounting to over 22K streams. This created anticipation for his upcoming EP, “Dear Culture”.
donMSITH has been performing all throughout New York City for years, after his headlining his first mini-tour. In 2018, The Harlem MC released vol. 1 & 2 of his "#whoisdonSMITH" mixtape/EP series, gaining over 40K cumulative streams in the first two weeks of their digital releases.
donSMITH (formerly Darnell Smitherson) began producing hip-hop beats and composing music
in his mother's living room at the age of 10, eventually growing his passion into writing rhymes and
audio engineering in 2014. In the more recent years of his artistry, publications have recognized
donSMITH as a notable independent artist, creating "raw & honest" music.
Based in Harlem, NYC, donSMITH has been sonically-associated with other heavily NY-influenced
actsrap acts, such as Pro.ERA, Flatbush Zombies, and OG Brooklyn MC, Talib Kweli.
As his music career continues to develop, donSMITH has taken the past year to hone in on his
growing east coast fanbase, performing frequently throughout New York City. Formerly based in
the midwest for a 4 year Bachelors program at Lawrence University, the Harlem MC has made his
prominent return to New York with his"Who Is donSMITH" mixtape/EP series, accumulating over
50K in streams in the first couple months of release online. These releases feature collaborations
with Chuck Strangers of Pro.ERA, Flo Kennedy of WAGE, Uncle Murda collaborator, Bigg Dogg,
and many more.
In 2019, his first single release, "Bob N' Weave" has seen the most success on platforms like Spotify,
online, and has been covered by a multitude of radio stations and blogs, both domestic &
